ENMA 295: Virtual Product Development and Project
Management Systems
In order
to improve the quality and breadth of the learning experience for students of
engineering management (ENMA) courses and increase the enrollment in ENMA
courses and program, it is desirable to create a distance learning environment
for offering ENMA courses. These courses
combine lectures with project team work to reinforce course learning
objectives. The ENMA distance learning
environment must encompass both lecture and team project course elements. Regarding the former, it must support
interactive lectures for non-co-located instructors and students. Regarding the latter, it must support virtual
teaming and project management for student team projects.
The
purpose of this project is to create a specification for an ENMA distance
learning environment. The rationale
behind pursuing this activity as an ENMA 295 project is: 1) ENMA students will
be direct users and beneficiaries of the system, so it is beneficial to have
these “customers” directly involved in the specification of the environment; 2)
this activity will give engineering management students direct experience in
specifying the type of virtual product development and project management
environment becoming common in industry.
