Objectives
Commensurate
with the primary knowledge/skill/experience areas covered in the class,
students in this course will demonstrate the following capabilities:
1.
Conduct
a scenario planning analysis.
2.
Conduct
a voice-of-the customer needs assessment.
3.
Perform
an IBIS problem assessment.
4.
Conduct
a new concept ideation session based on critical customer needs.
5.
Identify
existing intellectual property associated with current or existing customer
solutions.
6.
Create
a technology roadmap for customer solutions.
7.
Assess
core technology needs.
8.
Present
recommendations on commercialization opportunities for a selected technology.
These capabilities form the core
of engineering innovation and entrepreneurship. These objectives will be pursued in the
context of a real-world opportunity identified by the instructor. Students will demonstrate their competence
primarily through preparation of a “technology commercialization prospectus”
which will be reviewed by qualified representatives of target customers.
