ENMA
General Student Assessment Approach
The following is a general student assessment approach
for ENMA courses. Individual courses may
deviate on a semester-by-semester basis at the discretion of the instructor.
Student performance will be assessed using four
means:
Homework/tutorial assignments and class
participation are measures of individual
performance, while team project results reflect team performance (each team member
receives the same team grade). Thus,
each student’s assessment is composed of 50% individual performance and 50%
team performance.
Team Projects:
Team projects are the primary student deliverable
for this course. Specific oral and
written presentation guidelines and formats will be provided for each course,
as well as associated assessment tools.
Grade levels for projects are 0 (low) to 5 (high). See course web sites for details on team
projects. There will be no late team
project written and oral presentation submissions.
Homework/Tutorial:
Homework and tutorial assignments provide an
opportunity to assess the student’s ability to apply course materials to
practical problems. Individuals will
present their assignments in class.
Homework performance assessment will depend on the
student’s:
Homework grades will be assigned as follows:
One point will be deducted for late or improperly
formatted homework. See
individual course schedules for assignment due dates.
Class
Participation:
Class participation assessment is based primarily on
pro-active engagement by students in the lecture portion of the course. Students are expected to voluntarily respond
to questions raised during lectures, to ask clarifying questions, and to
provide personal insights that facilitate a greater understanding of the course
material.
Class participation grades for each class will be
assigned as follows:
Course Grades:
Course
grades are calculated by averaging grades per the weighting specified
above. Grade values are:

< A/B <= 4
·
2.5
< B <= 3
