ENMA Program Improvement Activities

 


During the summer of each academic year, ENMA program improvement activities are identified, planned, and executed.  This website summarizes annual improvement activities.


2005-2006

·         Curriculum

o    Courses: Developed (2) courses – ENMA 282 and ENMA 290.

·         Outreach

o    ENMA program communications:  Created web portal for ENMA-related materials.

o    University partnerships:  Signed letters of intent to cooperate with (5) major Polish technical universities – Warsaw, Cracow, Poznan, Wroclaw, and Gdansk.


2006-2007

·         Curriculum

o    Courses: Developed (2) courses – ENMA 283 and ENMA 284.

·         Assessment

o    ENMA course assessment:  Implemented on-line course and instructor assessment for all ENMA courses, available on-line to students.

·         Outreach

o    ENMA industrial advisory board:  Created industrial advisory board to stimulate continuous improvement of ENMA courses and program.

o    University partnerships: Started teaching summer courses at Poznan and Cracow universities of technology.


2007-2008

·         Curriculum

o    Courses: Developed (1) new course – ENMA 294.

o    ENMA certificates:  Developed two new ENMA certificates for Fall 2008 offering.

·         Assessment

o    Implemented on-line program assessment by ENMA program graduates and current ENMA students, available to students.

o    Implemented student performance assessment tool, first survey being conducted 05/08, available to students.

o    Industry partnership:  Initiated  KDAM Knowledge Discovery and Analysis in Manufacturing consortium.

o    New Business Development: Involved in spin-out of MO-COE technology to Paradigm Sensors LLC.


2008-2009

·         Curriculum

o    Courses: Developed and offered (1) new course – ENMA 288.

o    Courses:  Adapted (3) courses to support external certificates – ENMA 278 (SME Lean Certificate), ENMA 279 (PMI Project Management Certificate), ENMA 281 (ASQ Six Sigma Certificate).

o    Initiated conversion of ENMA courses for on-line availability – Prototype: ENMA 288.

o    Submitted publication: Development Process for a Virtual Learning and Teaming Environment.

·         Assessment

o    Initiate peer review process for ENMA course deliverables - ENMA 278, ENMA 291.

o    Utilized D2L for capturing homework assignments and team project deliverables.

·         Outreach

o    Prepared joint research publication with partners at Warsaw University of Technology, to be published in Quality Engineering:  Knowledge Discovery and Analysis in Manufacturing.

o    Taught summer course at Warsaw University of Technology for MS – Global Production Engineering Management Program: Strategic Technology Management.


2009-2010

·         Curriculum

o    Developed (1) new course – ENMA 6961 Intellectual Property Generation and Protection.

o    Linked ENMA 6070 Engineering Project Management course with COE undergraduate senior design program.

o    Case studies:  Added (2) case studies to parallel student team project deliverables for ENMA 6010 – Froedtert Hospital Chemotherapy Clinic, Waukesha Foundry

o    Software tutorials:  Added on-line tutorials added for ENMA 6060 (WEKA) and ENMA 6010 (Arena).

·         Virtual learning and teaming environment

o    Offering (2) ENMA courses as on-line hybrid courses – ENMA 6060, ENMA 6040.

o    Developed virtual student team project reviews and peer assessment implemented for Fall 2009 ENMA 6050 and ENMA 6060 courses.

o    Developed file sharing system for spring 2010 ENMA 6010 and ENMA 6020.

·         Assessment

o    Developed and deployed course assessment and results tool specifically for new on-line hybrid courses.

·         Outreach

o    With MU Marketing Department, created MS-ENMA marketing plan.

o    With Graduate School, created new MS-ENMA “view book” brochure.

o    Completed KDAM Consortium research project with Warsaw University of Technology researchers.

o    Published joint research paper with partners at Warsaw University of Technology: M. Polczynski, A. Kochanski, Knowledge Discovery and Analysis in Manufacturing, Quality Engineering, 22: 169-181, 2010.


2010-2011

·         Curriculum

o    Create ENMA course learning module cross-index to assist students in planning coursework.

o    Software tutorials:  Prepare booklet for publication: “Modeling and Simulation for Lean Systems”.

o    Propose “Healthcare Process Development and Improvement” certificate.

·         Virtual learning and teaming environment

o    Add two ENMA on-line hybrid courses – ENMA 6010, ENMA 6050.

o    Develop enhanced file sharing system with revision control.

·         Assessment

o    Extend Student Performance Assessment to include courses taught by temporary part-time adjunct instructors.

o    Develop standardized ENMA course student assessment process.

·         Outreach

o    Investigate possibility of industry/business funding consortium to provide budget for the COE portion of the ENMA program.

o    Develop systematic process for linking full-time ENMA students with internship opportunities.

o    Complete two KDAM Consortium research projects with local industry (Waukesha Foundry, Briggs & Stratton).

o    Teach summer course at Warsaw University of Technology for MS – Global Production Engineering Management Program.
